Welcome
Welcome one and all to the all and one blog about whisk(e)y. Why the parentheses? To put it simply, the modern spelling of the word came either from the Scottish Gaelic uisge beatha or the Irish uisce beatha, both meaning "water of life". The Irish spelling evolved with an e, while the Scottish one came along without the extra vowel. Americans adopted the Irish variant. Nowadays the spelling can literally indicate country of origin.
